Summary

This grant program supports a wide variety of conservation and restoration efforts across all 50 U.S. states and territories. It’s designed for nonprofit groups, government agencies, academic institutions, tribal nations, and private landowners who are working to protect, restore, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. The funding is available through multiple competitive grant streams, each tailored to different ecological needs—from forest and grassland restoration to watershed health, coastal resiliency, and wildlife corridor connectivity.

One of the flagship opportunities is for working lands, where farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners can receive support to adopt regenerative agriculture practices. In a recent round, nearly $15 million was awarded to groups that help landowners develop conservation plans, implement practices to improve soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitat, and take part in broader conservation programs. These grants help pay for technical assistance rather than simply rewarding landowners—emphasizing long-term ecological and economic sustainability.

Another major funding stream supports large-scale landscape restoration, including efforts to restore forests, reconnect watersheds, and build resilience to climate impacts. Here, awards can range from hundreds of thousands to multiple millions of dollars, depending on the scope of the project. In some recent competitions, grants have been in the ballpark of $250,000 to $3,000,000 for ambitious, multi-jurisdictional conservation initiatives.

There are also grants focused on urban and community-based conservation—such as reconnecting rivers, improving water quality, stabilizing shorelines, and increasing access to natural areas for underserved communities. These smaller- to mid-sized grants help groups carry out hands-on restoration, outreach, and stewardship work.

The goal of this grant portfolio is to catalyze effective, science-based conservation across landscapes. The funder encourages collaboration among partners, matching resources with on-the-ground expertise, and creating long-lasting benefits for both wildlife and human communities.
