Grant to Nonprofits that serve Historically under‑invested Communities in Washington (USA)
GrantID: 54991
Grant Funding Amount Low: $250
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $25,000
Summary
This funding opportunity is designed for nonprofit organizations working across Washington State. The program is available to 501(c)(3) organizations that are grounded in the community and seeking to advance equity, community power, arts and culture, or climate justice. The focus is on organizations that are rooted in or serve historically under‑invested communities—particularly Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities—and on efforts that support participation, mobilization, and systemic change.
Eligible applicants are nonprofits (sometimes through fiscal sponsorship) located in the designated region. Individuals and most for‑profit businesses are generally not eligible under this program. The funds may be used for work such as community organizing, capacity‑building for grassroots groups, arts and cultural project support in targeted communities, or climate and neighborhood resilience initiatives. The idea is to support initiatives that deepen community power, strengthen relationships, influence policy or systems, and generate meaningful local impact.
Award amounts vary depending on the specific cycle. For example, one track (performing arts) allows project‑based proposals up to approximately $25,000 for eligible organizations. Another track (grassroots power building) runs on a quarterly basis and supports smaller‑budget community groups. Applications are accepted multiple times per year: for instance, one program accepts applications in January, April, July, and October.
The main benefit of this grant opportunity is access to resources that emphasize local leadership, equity, and sustained impact—rather than one‑time, short‑term projects. If your nonprofit is based in the region, serves under‑invested communities, and has a well‑defined plan to strengthen leadership, build community power, or enhance cultural or climate resilience, this may be a strong funding fit.
